About Luminaring

About Us | Luminaring

At Luminaring, we’re not treating disease. We’re decoding its architecture.

Aging and dysfunction are not simply conditions to manage, but biological patterns to understand, predict, and ultimately reverse. Through comparative neuroscience, AI, evolutionary biology, and genomics, Luminaring is building a new scientific frontier focused on resilience, regeneration, and data-driven discovery in longevity research and precision health.

About Luminaring

Luminaring is a next-generation precision biotech company founded in late 2023 in Orlando, Florida, by neuroscientist and geneticist Dr. Maria Carolina Gallego Iradi. After decades of scientific work across neuroscience, immunology, genomics, and systems-level biology, she founded Luminaring with a bold mission: to rethink how discovery happens by integrating cross-disciplinary layers of biology into a unified and scalable scientific model.

Luminaring operates at the intersection of longevity research, genomics, neuroscience, AI, and translational discovery. We are building a platform designed to decode complex biological systems and transform those insights into tools for resilience, early detection, biomarker discovery, disease prediction, and long-term health innovation. Our work is grounded in scientific rigor, interdisciplinary thinking, and a commitment to uncovering patterns others overlook.

Our Scientific Pillars

  • ✔️ Precision medicine for humans and companion animals
  • ✔️ Comparative genomics and cross-species neurogenetics
  • ✔️ AI-powered diagnostics and biological resilience platforms
  • ✔️ Genomic innovation for regenerative agriculture and sustainability
  • ✔️ Predictive systems biology for health, environment, and longevity

Our Mission and Values

We believe the future of science belongs to those who recognize patterns before they become problems. At Luminaring, we value scientific clarity, intellectual courage, collaborative intelligence, and discovery with real-world relevance. Our mission is to advance longevity research and genomics through rigorous, integrative science that can shape a healthier and more resilient future.

Founder and CEO of Luminaring
Neuroscientist, geneticist, marine biologist, and interdisciplinary scientific leader

Maria Carolina Gallego Iradi founded Luminaring to challenge the limits of conventional science and reimagine biology as a multidimensional system that can be decoded, connected, and translated into meaningful innovation. “I didn’t create Luminaring to treat disease. I created it to understand life deeply enough to prevent it.”

Her research background spans more than two decades across multiple countries and scientific disciplines. She has contributed to work in neurodegeneration, genomics, transcriptomics, immunology, and environmental science, with experience connected to institutions including Stanford University, the University of Florida, the McKnight Brain Institute, and the University of Zaragoza.

Her work has included transcriptomic research on T cell maturation and thymic microenvironments, ALS-related investigations using live-cell systems, genomic Alzheimer’s research using human brain tissue and model systems, and comparative molecular studies across species. These experiences shaped a scientific perspective grounded in pattern recognition, biological complexity, and translational relevance.

She contributed to identifying early disruptions in protein dynamics associated with spinocerebellar ataxia, uncovering altered intracellular trafficking patterns linked to ion channel variants. Her work also provided insight into phase separation biology and selective recruitment mechanisms related to protein aggregation and neurodegeneration.

While studying ALS in vitro, she observed anastasis — a little-known phenomenon in which cells on the verge of programmed death reverse course and recover. This finding highlighted an unexpected layer of cellular resilience and opened new possibilities for understanding adaptation, recovery, and regenerative potential under biological stress.

During her doctoral research in Spain, she identified Alzheimer-type pathologies in dolphin species and discovered a novel isoform of the APP gene through comparative work spanning humans, dogs, chicken embryos, and dolphins. She developed custom molecular approaches to study this isoform across species, expanding the comparative biology of neurodegeneration.

Before entering neuroscience, Dr. Gallego Iradi specialized in marine biology with a focus on chemical oceanography, ecological systems, and pollution detection. That early systems-level perspective continues to inform Luminaring’s interdisciplinary approach to biology, resilience, and sustainable innovation.

Luminaring represents the convergence of this cross-disciplinary expertise. It is not simply a biotech company, but a scientific engine designed to explore regenerative potential, decode disease before it manifests, and develop scalable innovations for long-term human and planetary health. The company is building tools that connect AI with cross-species biological data to uncover early indicators of aging, disease susceptibility, and adaptability.

Luminaring is here to reshape how we understand life, aging, and health — not for the next generation, but for this one.

Our Innovation Ecosystem

Luminaring is part of the Cenfluence ecosystem and the Central Florida life sciences innovation network. Based in Orlando, this connection strengthens our visibility within a regional environment shaped by research, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. It also supports our long-term mission to advance longevity research, genomics, and data-driven scientific discovery.

Luminaring was also featured in the Florida High Tech Corridor’s 2025 Impact Report as a startup within this broader innovation ecosystem. As we continue building our network across research, biotech, and translational science, this recognition reinforces our growing presence within a community committed to scientific progress, collaboration, and impact.

Urielyx™: The Spirit of Discovery

Urielyx, Luminaring’s emblematic dragon

Urielyx™ is the emblem of Luminaring: a white dragon with golden eyes, gently holding a golden piece of bread. It symbolizes our founding ethos: clarity, curiosity, and the transformative nourishment of knowledge. White reflects our dedication to clean, precise science. Golden eyes stand for vision and insight. The bread represents the breakthroughs we uncover: rich, sustaining, and vital.

Urielyx™ is a companion in our pursuit of deeper biology, longer healthspan, and elevated resilience. As our research evolves, so does Urielyx™: a growing symbol for a company designed to transcend conventional boundaries.
